Hulu: Stream TV shows, hit movies, series & more review

Hulu is a streaming app for Android, iOS, and Windows. It offers an option to stream both live TV and movies on demand, having more than 60 channels and thousands of movies and shows available.

Features: Streaming with Ads

Hulu offers you both to stream live TV channels and movies and shows on demand. With their app, you can download movies to show them later or watch TV channels on the air. The app has lots of additional features like recommendations, lists, profiles, favorites, and many more.

Hulu's only drawback is that there are advertisements inside, despite the access to content being distributed via paid subscription. The worst part is that the ads are interfering with the watching process: while other streaming services launch ads at the beginning of the show, Hulu can throw them at you in the middle of an episode.

Design, interface & usability: A Bit Loaded

The interface, in general, is fine in this app. There are several main sections, the features are more or less properly structured, and the visual design is pretty fine as well. However, combining the features of streaming live TV and movies on demand makes a great challenge to any developer: there are too many features to fit into one app.

The interface is a bit overloaded, and if you are new to this app, you will easily get lost trying to watch a specific live channel simply. The app is feeling like an onion with all the menu layers: you go through sections each above the previous, and it becomes hard to explore.

Security: Weak Account Protection

There were no data breach scandals or any private information leaks with Hulu, but there is another security problem. The accounts with paid subscriptions are almost not protected at all. There is no multi-factor authentication or any other feature that would prevent an unwanted login.

The only thing Hulu offers is an e-mail with a notification that someone has added a new device to your account. There is also a device management page, where you can disconnect the unwanted devices, but that is definitely not enough for a paid subscription streaming service.

Conclusion: Average 3/5

Hulu is pretty much an average streaming service available on the market. It might be a good choice if you are looking both for streaming live TV and movies and shows on demand. If otherwise, it would be reasonable to look for a standalone platform that focuses on one of those. The weak parts of Hulu are the interface, which is a bit uncomfortable to use, and the weak account protection.
