Despite the first mobile installment of the famous Call of Duty series was only released on October 1, it’s already not so fine as we hoped. It took time for the game to arrive on iOS and Android, and Activision took its time to make it the best way. Still, it didn’t avoid technical issues right after the release.

Fail of Duty

Imagine your surprise (not the best sort of it), when you have just downloaded the long-awaited game and cannot play it! Abd the issue wasn’t about overcrowded servers; that would have been understood and fixable. No, the game just wouldn’t launch on users’ devices.

The matter wasn’t the hardware: if it didn’t comply, the game just would have refused the installation. It was all about optimization. Activision, we must admit, was swift to respond. The publisher admitted the problem on its Twitter and assured the readers that the team had been working on it already.

What’s In

Call of Duty: Mobile poster

No wonder the new mobile release drew so much attention. It’s the first ever mobile installment in the franchise that lasts since 2002. The developers create their own universe that interprets wars of the XX century through the eye of the player – and, being a first-person shooter, “through the eye” should be taken literally.

But the mobile version has gone through the inevitable shift caused by both hardware limitations and latest tendencies. On the one hand, the campaigns CoD is famous for would be just too large for a mobile experience. On another, in 2019 you cannot ignore the influence of Battle Royale and Team Deathmatch genres. No wonder that the mobile Call of Duty looks like Counter-Strike remixed. It offers Team Deathmatch (enough said), Gun Game, and Search and Destroy. There is also a Battle Royale mode, with 100 players on one map, where you ca play solo, in two- or four-player squads. And, of course, there will be events: the first, named “Light Up the World”, will start soon, bringing both competition and collaboration.

There are still the features we love Call of Duty for. The familiar maps for deathmatch include Nuketown, Hijacked, and Crash. The love for weapons is still seen from the design. The visuals are fantastic for such a grand 3D FPS gone mobile.

The Gamepad Problem

Even if the update only brings the fix for the technical issues, this is still worth it. The events will come when they come, we know. But there is one thing that Call of Duty severely lacks: controller support.

Though it was here in beta versions, the final release of Call of Duty doesn’t support gamepads. It’s even more strange since iOS 13 and Android 10 have added native support for Xbox One controllers and DualShocks. Probably it was made to equalize chances for all users. But hardly does it ease the disappointment of those eager to play CoD Mobile with gamepads. That’s another issue for Activision to fix.
