An innovative iOS application, Flavrs, which enables food lovers to discover and shop for recipe ingredients, is introducing a novel takeout option and a recommendation system powered by artificial intelligence, courtesy of a distinct integration with OpenAI. The interface of the app is inspired by TikTok, showcasing video content from renowned chefs and food content creators. An integration with Instacart facilitates the purchase of ingredients directly within the app.
Alejandro Oropeza, former global head of creator marketing at YouTube, and François Chu, an ex-Google engineer, founded Flavrs in September 2022. This startup has gathered $7 million as seed funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Wellington Access Ventures, and numerous celebrity chefs.
This evolution enables Flavrs to surpass its basic function of a shoppable recipe discovery app by integrating food discovery and order placement options. Users who come across a restaurant video and wish to order can be directed to Uber Eats and similar delivery services via Flavrs.
The latest AI-driven recommendation systems are a result of Flavrs' tailored integration with OpenAI. Video content from app creators can now be personalized across 30+ food categories, including cuisine type, cooking method, allergies, recipe complexity, dietary constraints, preparation time, and more. According to Oropeza, when creators upload content onto Flavrs, they add their plain text recipes to their video content.
Flavrs features an industry-first feature that leverages its bespoke OpenAI integration to transform these text recipes into 'smart' videos. These videos are not just shoppable and cookable but also fully comprehensible to the system as food content, facilitating personalized recommendations to users. Further, this feature considerably simplifies the work of content creators by automating the process of tagging and filtering their content, saving hours of manual labor.
The integration effectively converts plain text into engaging, personalized content that aligns with individual user preferences. Flavrs has witnessed a staggering 80x growth in its user base since its introduction last year, while its creator community has expanded 8x over the recent three months.
